  • Biography

    Charleston was born on August the 25th, by Joan Darling (mother) and Hugh Darling (father).

    He is an only child, which resulted in him being spoiled throughout his early childhood. When he was 8, however, his father's business fell into debt and his family had to relocate to his uncle's due to lack of money. During that time his mother fell ill and never fully recovered, and she eventually died on October 8th when he was 10 years old. His father, distraught from the loss of his wife and overwhelmed with guilt for not having the money for her medicine, committed suicide within a week of her death. ...Charles had found him, and his uncle tried to salvage what innocence was left by telling him that burglars had murdered his father in the night.

    Orphaned, Charles relied solely on his uncle for everything. His Uncle Harold (Harry) was not a kind or generous man. He raised Charles, somewhat reluctantly and irresponsibly, and taught the boy what he believed would be useful later in life. That included bargaining, deception, manipulating, and diligence (at least, that's what he claims). While he believed he was doing Charles good, he was emotionally abusive to the boy; to the point of him drilling Charles to be silent all of the time unless spoken to, and causing him to feel useless at everything he did. His only sense of cheer came from the neighboring Williams family, whose son Andrew was perceptive and always eager to bring a smile to surface.

    Growing up, Charles had highly valued his mother's teachings of being kind and considerate, and after her death he treasured her words even more so. He had loved his father too, and had heeded his teachings of honesty after death as well -- but at the age of 14 his uncle, in a fit of anger, told him the truth behind his father's death. This made him grow to resent his father, believing him to have been selfish for abandoning his son. He eventually left their teachings behind, his Uncle Harry's influence drastically effecting his outlook on life. He went from a sweet little boy to a rude one, only following the rules that he had set for himself.

    As a teen, Charles had earned and lost a number of friends, but the only one that remained a constant over the years was his neighbor, Andrew. They became as close-knit as brothers, snuck out often, and even etched tiny, matching stars on their wrists. A silly decision, thinking back on it, but silly decisions are what teens do best. Together, they got into a considerable amount of trouble. Always disappearing from their rooms at night or ditching obligatory social events. They were arrested a few times, but they managed to learn how to evade the law after being let go with warnings (on a number of occasions). Andrew started to mature when it came to these outings, but Charles kept up with his rebellious ways. It was his own form of spiting his uncle, whom worked in law enforcement.

    The last time he was arrested, though, his uncle had given up on him and let him remain in jail without attempting to help him, claiming "he deserved it." Charlie had been with his best friend Andrew for a night of fun and recklessness, but they had picked the wrong crowd. A man at the table had noticed Charles and his friend were cheating and openly accused them both of thievery, stirring up a fatal brawl. Charlie witnessed the death of his best friend that night, by his own gun that one of the men had snatched off of him. He was arrested while on the run back to his uncle's, and falsely accused of the murder of his best friend when his gun was found missing and no other men could be found. Years after his imprisonment, the man who had stolen Charlie's gun was arrested, and the authorities were able to figure out the truth. The time Charlie had spent incarcerated hardened what his uncle couldn't, and he was released at the age of 20.

    Joan and Hugh Darling complimented each other well, and their parenting skills were impeccable (most of the time). Joan was of average stature and built like a bird, with caramel-blonde hair, fair skin (dusted with freckles), and blue eyes as bright as the sky. She also possessed a single dimple in her cheek, something Charlie inherited from her. Hugh's height just qualified him as tall, and his wide shoulders were his most memorable feature. He had thick, dark brown hair, tanned skin, and deep blue eyes.
